THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND soccer team met with survivors of last year’s devastating Hurricane Sandy at Breezy Point, New York on Sunday afternoon.
More than 200 people were killed in the seven countries in the path of Sandy last October with the storm causing an estimated €45 billion worth of damage.
One of the areas most impacted by Sandy was Breezy Point where 2,400 of the 2,800 homes remain unoccupied eight months after the hurricane hit.
The Irish squad are in New York to play Spain in a glamour friendly at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday and will hope to do better than they did the last time the two sides met when the reigning World and European champions won 4-0 at Euro 2012.

However, before the game members of the squad and management, as well as FAI Chief Executive John Delaney, took time out to visit Breezy Point and meet some of the locals who have returned.
